Island, Constellations & Galapagos

Yokohama Triennale 2017

This year Yokohama, in the Kanagawa prefecture of Japan, hosts its 6th Triennale with the title "Island, Constellations & Galapagos". Artists explore connectivity, isolation, and how these ideas are changing in our rapidly evolving, fluid world. The directors describe the subject of this show in the directors' message which reads, "Participating artists deal with a wide range of themes including the individual and society, relationships between self and others, states and national borders, differing historical views, questioning of human activities and civilizations, and issues of isolation in Japanese society." Visitors are encouraged to engage with the exhibitions and explore these ideas which are shaping our unclear future, to see "what sort of vision and possibilities can be unlocked by human courage, imagination, and creativity."

Bellow is a small collection of images from all these locations: the Yokohama Museum of Art, the Yokohama Red Brick Wearhouse No.1, and the Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall (Basement).

The above two images are my favorites, I love that photography has the power to take the viewer of art and make them apart of it.
